NeuroAU is a global platform dedicated to advancing science-informed design by translating insights from neuroscience and cognitive science into meaningful applications for architecture, design, and urbanism. Through education, consultancy, and research, we empower professionals to create environments that support cognitive health, well-being, and human flourishing. Bridging academic knowledge and design practice, NeuroAU fosters a growing international community committed to shaping spaces that are not only functional, but deeply attuned to how we think, feel, and live.

Andréa de Paiva
is the founder of NeuroAU and a leading voice at the intersection of neuroscience, design, and architecture. She is a board member of the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture (ANFA) and is dedicated to exploring the integration of neuroscience, architecture, and design —focusing on how physical environments influence behavior and well-being.
Holding a Master of Arts degree from Middlesex University in London and a degree in Architecture and Urban Planning from the University of São Paulo (USP), Andréa brings an interdisciplinary approach that bridges academic research, teaching, and professional practice. Her research interests include the application of cognitive science to architecture and urban design, with emphasis on topics such as the impact of the built environment on well-being, environmental enrichment, brain plasticity and cognitive reserve, multisensory experience of space, and cognitive restoration.
Andréa is the coordinator of the course Interiors & Neuroscience: Human-Centered Design at IED (Istituto Europeo di Design), and has also co-created and coordinated neuroscience-based business programs at FGV (Fundação Getulio Vargas). At FAAP (Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado), she created the course Neuroscience Applied to Environments and Creativity, which completed its 10th edition in 2022.
Certified in Design Thinking by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Andréa works as a Neuroarchitecture consultant, applying her expertise in major projects — including for Athié Wohnrath (recognized by Forbes in 2016 as one of the most successful architecture firms in Brazil), consulting for FGV (ranked as the top think tank in Latin America by the Global Go To Think Tanks Index, 2020), and international research collaborations such as StairWELL, a study on how design influences behavior, developed by DPA Architects in Singapore/London and funded by the Design Singapore Council.
